TomTom came to us from out of province where he'd been put on the time-is-up list.
He was unneutered, rough looking, had horribly decaying teeth, and a marble sized lump under his right eyebrow. Despite his poor health and obvious pain, this sweet fella was a total lovey-dovey.
TomTom had a painful marble-sized lump under his eyebrow, a mouthful of rotten teeth, and paws twice the normal size. Like all cats that come into it's care, Helping Rescue Cats (Durham) had TomTom promptly Vet assessed and treated for pain. Surgery was scheduled to remove the large lump under his eyebrow and half of his rotten teeth. Antibiotics, pain and other medications reduced his “Pillow Paws” swelling.
Sadly, testing on the lump came back with a diagnosis of CANCER around his eye-area. The only way to remove the cancerous cells was to remove his eye and another surgery was scheduled. After his second surgery, more testing was done to determine if all the cancer had been removed. It had not, and a much more invasive and specialized surgery was needed. One of the many challenges with this surgery was the amount of skin that would have to be removed on the right side of his face.
After many consultations, it was decided the best approach would be to repurpose some of TomTom's neck skin to create an eye-patch. TomTom's surgery was a success and thankfully, further tests came back cancer-negative!
After extensive healing, our lovey-dovey fella was finally ready to have the last of his rotten teeth removed. His second dental surgery was completed, and while TomTom has lost his charming lop-sided grin, our fella is now pain-free and purring up a storm!
